Position Objectives:
To advance animal rights and vegan initiatives by generating media coverage of PETA's campaigns
To coordinate outreach and correspondence with media representatives and establish long-lasting professional relationships to help ensure animal rights issues remain in the spotlight
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepare and service news releases for PETA campaigns
Develop targeted lists for issue and campaign coverage
Develop new pitch ideas and ways to revamp news releases and pitches in order to increase media coverage of PETA campaigns
Develop contacts and establish relationships with media representatives
Keep informed about PETA's work and media coverage
Keep informed about local and national news stories and track those that are relevant to PETA's campaigns
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience working in a professional environment
Minimum of two years of professional working experience
Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns and a desire to pursue a career in animal rights
An interest in the news and public relations
Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
An outgoing demeanor and capability to make connections and maintain relationships
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and stay organized
Proven ability to take initiative and follow-through
Ability to make sound judgments and work independently
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues in a professional manner
This position requires proof of the COVID-19 full vaccination and booster
Commitment to the objectives of the organization
